Our Story
There is a secret within SEPIAH…
A secret lives inside SEPIAH...
The white, shimmering dorsal bone of an octopus washed up from the depths of the sea aroused our interest while walking on the beach.
In the sand lay this fascinating white oval.
It was the dorsal bone of Sepia officinalis, a genus of cuttlefish. Consisting of layers of calcium carbonate, it serves as a buoyancy body for the cuttlefish. Since most of them don't get older than a year, the bone can often be seen lying on the beach as a find. The light, oval find is a fascinating object, especially from an artist's point of view.
What could possibly be created from this? How could the perfect, wavy lines inside be visualized? The object triggered an impulse, awakened the desire to experiment and started a vision. Because the layers inside this object harbor a secret that just had to be discovered.
The attempt to dare an ancient goldsmith technique called Ossasepia rewarded us with a surprise that has accompanied us in the creation of each new piece of jewelry ever since:
The glitter of the waves and the structures of life on every surface, as fine, precise and elegant as only nature itself can create.
Sepiah is inspired by the organic patterns, the infinite variety of shapes, waves and lines of the sea.
From the contrast of dullness and shine, as well as from the union of chance and craftsmanship, Sepiah jewelry intuitively reminds us:
Be connected to the magic of the sea, to the traces of evolution and the beauty of life.
Each Sepiah piece of jewelery is intended to remind us that the sea, the origin of our existence and home to countless organisms, will require a large portion of activism from all of us in order to remain in its life-giving function.
Our cooperation in this area is currently being strengthened and expanded. So our concern is to draw attention to the situation in which the blue planet is and to support activists who work for it.
Each of us can contribute. The Sepiah label contributes 3% of each piece of jewelery sold. A walk on the beach turned into a true mission to make a difference.
